Intern at AACRE

AACRE offers internships throughout the year for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in conducting advocacy and policy research for social justice issues that impact Asian and Pacific Islander American communities. Because much of AACRE’s work follows the California state legislative calendar, internships differ depending on the time of year. Internships are unpaid.

Advocacy Internship
(offered January through September)

The AACRE Advocacy Internship program provides individuals with substantive policy and advocacy experience in California’s State Capitol. Interns participate in all aspects of the legislative process, including drafting support letters, attending legislative hearings, researching policy information, mobilizing supporters, and writing press releases.

Applicants should have an interest in civil rights and social justice issues, and prior experience in these areas is desirable. Applicants should also possess excellent research, writing and communication skills, initiative to complete projects on their own, and a strong desire to pursue policy and advocacy as a career. This internship is open to college and graduate students, as well as recent graduates.

To apply, please send a resume, writing sample and a letter of interest that includes the number of hours and days per week you would be available for an internship:

Policy and Legislative Research Internship
(offered October through December)

The AACRE Policy and Legislative Research Internship program provides individuals with policy research experience. Interns will assist AACRE in researching various policy ideas to develop potential legislative proposals for the following legislative session. This process involves researching current laws on the topic, talking with experts in the field, and developing recommendations for policy solutions. Please note that much of this internship is conducted independently, under remote supervision, and can be conducted outside of Sacramento.
